Today I feel terrible. I had blood work done this morning. I am hopped up on cold medicine, allergy medicine, and am eating cough drops like they are candy. I actually took a nap in my car on my lunch break today. All of this to say, please excuse the following content if it doesn’t seem to make any sense. I’m not really feeling my best self today.

It’s kind of ironic that I am feeling so sick today. While I am sitting here, fighting to get back to my healthy, happy self, America is doing the same thing. American is fighting to elect someone who will allow us to be the healthiest, strongest version of ourselves we can be. America is lining up to cast their votes and fill social media with their “I voted” stickers as evidence that they are taking part in trying to make America the best country that it can be. While I do have my own political views, and I do believe that one of these two candidates is the better fit for our country, I think there is an even bigger picture to focus on today. I would encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote! The right to vote is a privilege and civic duty that should be exercised 100%. However, once your vote is cast, let’s leave the results up to the true ruler of this nation. Instead of getting caught up in arguments on Facebook, or instantly planning your escape route to Canada, take a moment to realize who is in control. God is God and we are not. For decades this country had held elections. For decades our country has had leaders with differing agendas. For decades people have woken up after election day in disappointment that their candidate did not win. And for decades, this nation has continued to stand as one of the greatest nations on the face of our planet. While there has been tragedy and devastation over the years, there has been unbelievable growth and change.

The United States of America has never ceased to be a country of opportunity and hope and that is because of one president, one king, one man named Jesus.

Let’s try to spend less time today worrying about red versus blue but instead offer up prayers for our country. Let’s pray that God will work in the hearts of our elected leaders, and help us to trust His plan, even if it isn’t the same as our plan. The tomb was borrowed, the grave was defeated, and we have a God who has already won the ultimate battle. If you doubt that, just take a look at the dollar bill in your wallet. “In God We Trust”. That truth is what this country was founded on because that truth, well, that truth is everything. 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has been the home of 43 different leaders. Heaven has been the home of one.
