FAKE IT 'TILL YOU MAKE IT
Do you ever feel like you are just floating through this phase of life, trying to make it look like you have it all together when really, you don’t know what you’re doing at all? Are there days when the world demands so much from you but you just don’t feel like there’s any more of you to give? I think I can vouch for most twenty-something’s when I say the phrase “Fake it ‘till you make it” is my life motto way too often! Today at work, my boss sent me an IM asking for me to come into his office when I had time. Instantly trying to prepare myself for some sort of terrible news, I went into his office and found out that I am taking over two jobs as a Project Manager. Here’s the issue I am having…..I’m not a Project Manager. I went to school for Advertising. I took one math class in college. I don’t like negotiating. And now I am responsible for $9,000,000.00 worth of equipment that needs to power facilities outside the United States. To say that I feel under-equipped and under-educated is an understatement. Literally, what is happening?! But after a deep breath (or two…or five) I realized there’s nothing that a cup of cheap office coffee, a messy bun, and some positivity can’t fix. So to anyone who is having one of those days where they feel like they’re trying to have it all figured out, but deep down have no idea what is happening, please hear me when I say you are not alone. You are not alone and you have it more together than you think. You have been blessed with brains and are a little fountain of knowledge, so don’t doubt yourself! You have been placed in this moment on purpose, for a purpose. You’re more than enough. Pause. Take a breath. Tell yourself you can do this. Prepare to take on the world. I know that adulting isn’t easy, but it is doable. (And unavoidable, unfortunately.) Just think of everything you have accomplished that has brought you this far! Your future is bright my friend. I promise, there are great things ahead.
